Imaginative Traveller in brief
Imaginative Traveller specialises in small group tours for young(ish), adventurous and independent-minded travellers who want to meet locals and get to grips with a destination. If you don't want to join a group, it can arrange tailor-made versions of any of its trips on request.
Our review of Imaginative Traveller
Imaginative Traveller is an extremely friendly tour operator of 30 years' standing. From its base in Suffolk, which it shares with sister company Dragoman, it organises small group tours to a plethora of destinations across the world. Good news for solo travellers - there are no single supplements.
'ImTrav' – as its team refer to it – offers three levels of comfort. Its 'Basic' packages (as the name suggests) require a degree of roughing it, but are priced to reflect that. 'Comfort' is a compromise – you get to rough it during the day, but get a comfy bed in a characterful homestay or hotel in the evening. 'Plus' is more of a traditional tour – think 3* hotels with hot showers.
Another string to the ImTrav bow is its range of family adventures, suitable for kids aged six and up.
In 2013 ImTrav and sister company Dragoman launched a new brand, Tailor-madeadventures.com, tapping into the combined expertise of the two teams. The bespoke travel service is headed up by Dragoman Operations Manager Jenny Moss, and is aiming to provide holidays for friends, honeymooners, school expeditions, one-off family celebrations or special interest groups. It covers over 70 destinations, with trip styles divided into Active Holidays, Honeymoons, Beach Holidays, Private Overland Truck Charters, Cultural Holidays, Safari, Families and Special Interest Groups.
Spooky ImTrav fact: not so long ago a team member returned from West Africa with a fertility mask. Soon eight women from the 25-strong staff became pregnant.
